Early Life: Phoolan was born into the lower mallah caste, in a family of Mallah (boatmen), in the small village of Gorha ka Purwa in Uttar Pradesh, India. She spent 11 years in Gwalior and Jabalpur jails before she was released in 1994 without facing any trial.
